Charcoal and Graphite on Paper
--
This drawing is part of a series which I call "Transfusions". In this group of often surreal or magic realist charcoal and graphite drawings there is a continuous give and take between figures. I often use the images of licking to convey healing wounds, cleansing, vulnerability and nurture but the act of licking also suggests erotic pleasure, aggressive insatiability and possible danger. The figures are divided in different blocked spaces and it is often unclear if they are floating or sinking, falling or raising up, breathing or drowning. Are these figures in pain or pleasure? Are they active participants or are they victims?
